The basic function of certification is to assure that a particular information security solution meets the recommendations of expert best practice.  Since information technology is borderless, real-time trading can take place between companies on different sides of the world.  Consequently the ability to trust a distant partner is an essential element of international trade and independent certification is an important mechanism for establishing that.

The Advantage of IBOK  Certification -  The IBOK is a holistic approach to security.  It is not limited to one idea or method.  Instead, it is a integration of every single globally accepted expert practice into a single body of knowledge.  And as a consequence the contents of the IBOK can be adapted to address any potential security requirement.  It is the comprehensive scope of coverage and universal applicability tat makes the IBOK such an important item to master.

Certification is a Mark of Distinction -The mark of distinction that certification of capability in information assurance represents can serve as a clear competitive advantage and brand differentiators in the ongoing conduct of business.

NSRB Certification is Expert Based - ISIG has developed this model and the associated certification registration infrastructure to address a global need of extreme importance.  This work was done by experts representing the industrial, technical and business sectors worldwide, for the explicit purpose of insuring uniform best practice in information assurance.  These experts were assisted by many others with relevant knowledge, representing standards groups, governmental agencies and academia as well as business stockholders.

It Represents A Consensus - This model was developed using all existing standards.  As such it represents consensus among experts.  That ensures its widespread applicability and acceptance.  Since the form of this body-of-knowledge will evolve over time it will be reviewed every three years in order to decide whether it should be maintained, updated or withdrawn.  As such it will be possible to guarantee that this model approximates the state of the art in best practice, as well as the continuing consensus of experts in the field.

It is Global - This model represents a formal agreement among parties representing most industrialized countries.  As such it provides a global framework for developing uniform and compatible security systems.
